Release 11.3 #46490@2018-05-18

OpenEdge 11.7 Service Pack 2

We are announcing full compatibility with the Service Pack 2 for OpenEdge 11.7 (OpenEdge 11.7.2).

See further remarks below.

Deletion of SmartDataAdapters and BindingSources

In SCL-2019 we have changed the clean-up behavior of the SmartDataBrowser control when a Form is closed. After this change, the SmartDataBrowser will delete it's linked SmartDataSource (e.g. SmartBusinessEntityAdpater) instance and DataSource (binding source). In rare cases, where those instances may still be required after the form containing the browser have been closed, developers can set the following new property of the SmartDataBrowser to FALSE:

/**
 * Purpose: Controls if the SmartDataBrowser deletes it's SmartDataSource and DataSource
 *          when the Form is closed
 * Notes:
 */
DEFINE PUBLIC PROPERTY DeleteDataSourceOnFormClosed AS LOGICAL NO-UNDO INITIAL TRUE
GET.
SET.

Announcing the SmartFramework ERD Designer

We are announcing the availability of the SmartFramework ERD Designer

Release Notes

Following the release of the OpenEdge 11.7 Release we have completed our testing of the SmartComponent Library on this release of Progress and are proud to announce formal support for the SmartComponent Library on OpenEdge 11.7 with the 2017-04-24 release of the SmartComponent Library. Generally we recommend customers on OpenEdge 11 to upgrade to OpenEdge 11.7 quickly. Starting the 2017-07-14 release we are supporting OpenEdge 11.7 Service Pack 1 (11.7.1).

Starting the 2015-10-09 release the Business Entity Designer will feature a start page with links to most recent release note articles on this site.

With SCL-751 we have adopted native Enums for OpenEdge 11.6. To activate this feature customers must add a definition to products.i. SCL-751 provides details for this.

With SCL-1113 we have modified the templates for SmartWindowForms and SmartTabFolderPages generated from the Business Entity Designer. We have removed the initialization of the viewer controls SmartTableIOState property (value was set to "NoDataSource" within the InitializeComponent method). Customers using their own set of templates should adopt the same fix to their templates.

OpenEdge 11.7.2 compatibility

During our tests on OpenEdge 11.7.2 we have experienced two issues:

  • [SCL-2007] - Correct support for WebHandler in CcsServiceManager
  • [SCL-2008] - Closing SmartWindowForm causes crash on OpenEdge 11.7.2

We consider it mandatory for customers using OpenEdge 11.7.2 to use at least the release #44166@2017-11-27 of the SmartComponent Library.

Due to an fix for

  • [SCL-1924] - SmartViewerControl: copy mechanism cannot cope with clob datatype

from Progress Software for in OpenEdge 11.7.2.001 we further recommend all customers to apply this hotfix as well.

New Versions of Proparse .NET Assemblies (08 April 2018)

We have updated proparse with further enhancements in this release (see https://github.com/consultingwerk/proparse/releases/tag/4.0.1.1176). Please download the .NET Assemblies ZIP file from our ESD and replace the proparse.net.dll in your environment with the latest one. The new assembly reference is:

<assembly name="proparse.net, Version=4.0.1.1176, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=cda1b098b1034b24"/>

As proparse is used by our Business Entity Generator, this new version of the proparse.net Assembly is also relevant for customers not doing GUI for .NET development and require support for parsing new ABL language constructs.

This version of proparse provides additional methods for refactoring purposes. The most recent code in the Consultingwerk.Studio package relies on those methods. It's therefore mandatory to update proparse to this version.

Hybrid Realm now using IAuthenticationService

We've updated the SmartHybridRealm class used for http authentication to leverage the IAuthenticationService. It is therefor required that for AppServers requiring http Authentication (e.g. REST or Web) the correct IAuthenticationService implementation is registered (using service.xml files).

Customers relying on the previous behavior should ensure that the Consultingwerk.SmartFramework.Authentication.AuthenticationService is regsitered as the IAuthenticationService. This implementation will auhtenticate users against the password stored in the SmartUser database table.

When users with no Login Company set should be able to login using the SmartHybridRealm, it's required to set the Login Company Tennant Domain (similar to the field in the Login Company Maintenance) in the .restapplicationsettings / .applicationsettings, e.g.:

 "DefaultAuthenticationDomain": "consultingwerk"

This is required as the Hydrid Realm Interface from Progress does not provide the domain name to the authentication method.

UTF-8 based deployments available

Starting August 14th 2016 we ship our source code also as UTF-8 encoded. The ZIP files ending with _utf8.zip contain the source code encoded with that code page. The source code in the remaining archives is still encoded in ISO8859-1. Also on Github there is a new branch containing the OpenEdge 11 based source code in UTF-8.

Overview of included tickets

Bug

SCL-2193 Fixed incorrect record positioned in grid after commit that causes validation error

Description:

Due to possible interference with batching a wrong record might have been positioned in a SmartBusinessEntityAdpater/SmartDataBrowser after committing an update (AutoCommit = FALSE) that caused a validation error.

Improvement

SCL-2183 Improve formatting of .smartrepo files for better diff during SCM merge

Description:

We have implemented the following changes to the export of the .smartrepo files: - Sorting of records is now based on meaningful attributes (Attributes on InstanceName and AttributeLabel, Links based on SourceInstanceName, LinkType and TargetInstanceName, ObjectInstances sorted on ParentInstanceName and ObjectSequence, Pages sorted on PageSequence) - Order of fields so that meaningful fields are at the beginning of the line (e.g. InstanceName and AttributeName), all GUID fields are at the end of the line now - Hide fields that have the initial value, this will reduce the attribute value fields to only the values in the relevant data type (exception is the raw value field, but that seems to be an OpenEdge limitation) - Changed the order of the temp-tables. This makes the .smartrepo files over all much better readable. However ... after the conversion the existing files and new files will hardly be comparable at all as the structure has significantly changed. It might be useful to consider dumping all .smartrepo files once again after the new framework release is installed. This will provide a compatible base for compares in the future.

SCL-2191 Lazy population of the TreeView in the Object Type Maintenance

Description:

We've optimized the runtime performance of the Object Type Maintenance Treeview by implementing lazy loading of object types as nodes are expanded instead of loading all data when the Form is launched.

SCL-2192 Added more debugging output ro the scl generate static-types script

Description:

The script will now provide detailled output about why the static types generation (TypeScript/Angular 5) cannot proceed.

SCL-2194 Added support for Batching to the Business Entity Tester

Description:

We have implemented support for testing batching scenarios in the Business Entity Tester. There is now a new Toolbar facilitating the controlling of First/Previous/Next/Last Batch operations.

SCL-2195 Ensure only a single Index is marked as primary in the Business Entity Tester

Description:

When updating an Index to "Primary" in the Business Entity Tester, all other indexes are now unchecked from being primary.

New Feature

SCL-2107 Added new argument to Dataset/Table-Model Fill methods (etc.) that allow to optionally throw an error, when a Fill/Filter:Run returns no record

Description:

In order to behave similar to a FIND with no NO-ERROR option, we've added a new option to the Fill/Filter:Run() methods which allows to throw an error when no record is returned by a query. The new behavior is based on the Consultingwerk.OERA.OnNotAvailableEnum type with options to either throw or ignore.

SCL-2189 Implemented ability to define services directly from JSON configuration file

Description:

The loadServices array in the JSON Configuration File (https://documentation.consultingwerkcloud.com/display/SCL/JSON+Configuration+File+Format) can now define services in two ways, combinations are supported: as JSON Strings referencing the names of service.xml files as JSON Objects directly referencing services, see below. Services in the JSON Object configuration in one JSON Configuration file may override settings for the same Interface in a base JSON Configuration file thus allowing overriding individual service definitions - which is not supported by service.xml files.
"loadServices": [
  {
    "Package.Subpackage.IInterfaceName1": "Package.Subpackage.ServiceImplementation1",
    "Package.Subpackage.IInterfaceName2": "Package.Subpackage.ServiceImplementation2"
  }
]

SCL-2190 PASOE-Manager Scripts on Windows need to look for 32 bit OpenEdge install first

Description:

For setups where a 32 bit Progress developer studio is installed alongside a 64 bit PASOE development server, the PASOE Management scripts (https://documentation.consultingwerkcloud.com/display/SCL/PASOE+management+scripts) need to use the 32 bit Progress install to execute the scripts.
